AlloSource Donor Screening and Recovery

We utilize extensive evaluation criteria to identify eligible tissue donors, and two Medical Directors verify donor medical records. Our donor acceptance criteria are based on FDA and American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) standards as well as additional standards set by the AlloSource Medical Advisory Board.

AlloSource requires a donor comprehensive physical assessment, as well as a complete medical and social history to identify and eliminate tissue donors who are at high risk of being carriers of certain viruses and diseases. The OPO then proceeds with recovery of the organs and/or tissue. All recoveries are performed using aseptic techniques, and the bone, skin and soft tissue are stored pending donor eligibility determination, serological and microbiological test results.

The donor must test negative or non-reactive to tests for: Hepatitis A, B, and C, as well as HIV and other diseases.

By focusing solely on quality, safety, service and a commitment to honor the gift of donation, AlloSource has grown into one of the nation’s leading non-profit bone and soft tissue networks and the world’s largest supplier of fresh cartilage allografts and skin used for life-saving burn applications.

Showing respectful appreciation for the gift of donation, AlloSource saves and improves lives by maintaining the highest standards in recovery, processing and storage of human tissue.
