CENTENNIAL, Colo.— AlloSource, one of the nation’s largest non-profit providers of skin, bone and soft tissue allografts for use in surgical procedures, has added leading Pathologist and Doctor of Transfusion Medicine, Hannis W. Thompson, MD, as Medical Director and a member of the AlloSource Medical Advisory Board. As AlloSource Medical Director, Dr. Thompson will work on-site at AlloSource in a full-time capacity reviewing donor charts and records and providing guidance on tissue safety practices.
For more than twenty-five years, Dr. Thompson has been a Pathologist and Doctor of Transfusion Medicine. As a leading researcher and teacher in both fields, he has held numerous positions at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center since 1992 including the Director of Transfusion Medicine and Associate Professor of Pathology. Earlier in his career, he served as Medical Director for the American Red Cross, Carter Blood Center and the Belle Bonfils Memorial Blood Center. Prior to that, Dr. Thompson was also a Pathologist with the Cook Forth-Worth Children’s Medical Center.

The AlloSource Medical Advisory Board is comprised of ten independent Medical Doctors representing a cross-section of experts in the fields of orthopedic and spinal surgery, research and pathology. The Board directly reviews the suitability of all donor tissue, provides guidance on the development of new therapies and techniques to improve the safety and efficiency of allografts and offers independent oversight of the organization with respect to compliance and safety practices.
Dr. Thompson holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Indiana University School of Medicine, completing an Internship/Residency in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology from Indiana University Medical Center. He obtained a fellowship in Blood Banking from the University of Minnesota, Memorial Blood Center of Minneapolis.
