Responsible, non-profit network increases allograft availability for greater Cincinnati region
CENTENNIAL, CO (March 21, 2006) – Centennial-based AlloSource, one of the nation’s largest non-profit providers of bone and soft tissue allografts, as well as allograft skin for burn applications, today announced it will partner with Cincinnati-based LifeCenter Organ Donor Network (LODN), an organ procurement organization that works with 26 area hospitals to serve the people of the greater Cincinnati area, including Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana.
This arrangement supports AlloSource’s non-profit business model. AlloSource provides service to non-profit organ procurement organizations that have direct input and oversight into AlloSource’s business operations. The model allows AlloSource to secure a steady supply of quality donors while releasing the vast majority of life-saving and life-enhancing bone, tissue and skin allografts back to the local donor community.
The LODN partnership comes on the heels of AlloSource’s March 15th acquisition of tissue processor U.S. Tissue and Cell of Cincinnati, a former LODN partner.
“LifeCenter Organ Donor Network is providing incredible transplant and educational services in the greater Cincinnati region, “ said Tom Cycyota, president and chief executive officer of AlloSource. “We are honored to be working with such a reputable partner.”
“We are excited to work with a like-minded organization such as AlloSource, committed to ethical practices and a community focus, “ said David Lewis, Executive Director, LifeCenter Organ Donor Network. “This region will benefit from an expanded supply of quality allografts to serve growing patient demand.”
Designated by the federal government to oversee the procurement of organ donation, LifeCenter works with 26 area hospitals to implement policies supporting the process of organ donation. Donation awareness and education is provided to healthcare professionals to assist in the donation process and to help them support family members faced with the death of a loved one.
LifeCenter is also responsible for increasing public awareness about organ donation for a population base of over 2 million people. LifeCenter’s public education department works to enable every individual to make an informed decision about donation.

AlloSource continues to increase the availability of high quality, safe allografts, showing respectful appreciation for the gift of donation, while conducting daily business with integrity and professionalism. The non-profit company saves and improves lives by maintaining the highest standards in recovery, processing, and storage of human tissue and cells, while striving to develop new therapeutic technologies.
Allografts include bone, soft tissue and skin recovered from deceased donors for use in a variety of surgical procedures. Each year allografts improve the ability to function and quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people who suffer from trauma or disease. Allografts offer several benefits over autografts (grafts from the patient’s own body), including expanded grafting possibilities, significantly decreased patient pain and reduced length of hospital stay.
